Welcome address by Prof. Dr. h.c. Martin H. Richenhagen

On behalf of the German Equestrian Federation (FN), it is my pleasure to welcome you to Verden for the World Championships for Young Dressage Horses.

For thousands of years, horses have held a special fascination for us humans. Without horses, our history would have taken a different course. Bringing riding back to people as a cultural asset is one of the goals we have set ourselves for the future.

Today, the horse has found its place in our society as a competition and leisure partner. Here in Verden, we experience horses as celebrated athletes. However, such successes do not come easily. They are based on riding techniques developed over generations and a continuous training system adapted to the respective age of the horse and focused on its well-being. In addition, patience, talent, and diligent training are required to ultimately achieve top performances as a horse-human team – whether in dressage, show jumping, eventing, carriage driving, or vaulting.

We are proud to say that equestrian sports are among Germany's most successful sports. To ensure that this remains the case, we will continue to need a wide range of competitions for all disciplines, age groups, and performance classes in the future – from beginner competitions to top international events. Events such as the World Championships for Young Dressage Horses in Verden.

My thanks go to all those who contribute to the success of the event. The sponsors and patrons, without whose support such a competition would not be possible, as well as the many volunteers. Their commitment and passion are the foundation of every successful sporting event. Special thanks also goes to the organizers, without whom such a competition would not be possible and who are once again making the World Championships for Young Dressage Horses an outstanding experience for everyone involved this year.

I wish all participants and spectators exciting days of competition in Verden.
