The World Championship week in Verden – it's about to begin

The FEI WBFSH Dressage World Breeding Championship for Young Horses will kick off in Verden the day after tomorrow. At 9 a.m. on Wednesday morning, the six-year-olds will begin their qualification in the Horse24 Arena, thus opening the championship. The starting fields in all age groups are whetting the appetite for the upcoming World Championship week from 6 to 10 August.

42 six-year-olds and 41 seven-year-olds, making a total of 129 horses from 23 different studbooks. Horses from Dutch warmblood breeding (KWPN) are the most strongly represented with a total of 21 World Championship candidates, followed by Hanoverians (17) and Oldenburgers (16). This corresponds to the picture over the past ten World Championships (2020 was cancelled due to the coronavirus pandemic): Of the 337 World Championship finalists since 2014, 97 came from KWPN breeding. If you add up the three strongest associations within Germany, a total of 142 horses came from their breeding programmes, led by 57 finalists from the Hanover breeding area, followed by Oldenburg with 52 and Westphalia with 33 finalists.

The first World Championship medals will be awarded on Saturday. The final of the six-year-old dressage horses is scheduled for 4 p.m. The final test for the seven-year-olds begins on Sunday at 11 a.m., with the five-year-olds bringing the event to a close on Sunday at 2.30 p.m.

“In Memory” charity campaign

Between the two World Championship finals on Sunday, an unusual and wonderful opportunity awaits all World Championship visitors: in this charity campaign, everyone can support German Cancer Aid and at the same time secure a rising star through a bidding process: In Memory – a colt by Iowa Gold, bred from the Sandro Hit daughter Sancara and born in May. A foal with a very special story, the story of Lara: Lara lost her courageous battle with cancer at the age of only 37. Her source of strength was her beloved mare Sancara, In Memory's mother. Lara's last wish was to be paired with a specific stallion, Iowa Gold. Her dream came true: In Memory. That is why the proceeds from In Memory will go to German Cancer Aid to support research, education and help for those affected.

Here's how it works: In this auction, the winner is not the person with the highest bid, but the last bidder. This means that whoever places the last bid becomes the new owner of In Memory. The minimum bid is 200 euros, each bidder pays only their bid, and all proceeds go to German Cancer Aid. Make a note now: the charity auction in aid of German Cancer Aid will take place on the final Sunday of the World Championships at around 2 p.m. In Memory, a dream lives on.
